lovers on the run: vol.1

Lovers on the run- one of my favorite film genres and huge inspiration behind our new collection. So I got to thinking about my favorite films from this genre and decided to do a series of posts about them all...

No.1 is "À Tout de Suite,"a 2004 film by Benoît Jacquot, an homage to French New Wave starring Isild Le Besco and Ouassini Embarek (very sexy- he was also in The Good Thief). The story begins in 1970's Paris with Lili- a bored and spoiled art student, who spends her time "doodling and daydreaming".  Her life takes a wild and drastic turn when she meets the young and mysterious Morroccan, Bada. She falls instantly in love and a violent and reckless adventure begins, continuing on through Spain, Morocco, and Greece. I saw this film back when it was released in 2004 and it just stuck with me. Just like all lovers on the run films, this one is romantic, impulsive, dangerous, and adventurous. But it's also French (love the New Wave styling), exotic, and young.

-"this small, nearly perfect film is really about the sad chains of events that can follow when people foolishly surrender to their dumbest romantic impulses."

  3. "The Good Thief" was a great film, so I'll check out anything that has Ouassini Embarek in it. He was in "Baisse-Moi" - that one was a shocker - hard to handle.

Yeah, I was a film critic in the late 90s early 2000s. It was tough, but I met some great people at festivals like Tim Roth. He was awesome...Some great films then, too, esp. British. They inspire everything, and it saddens me when I worked with people who would rather go see "Armageddon." Gah!
