drinking in LA

continuing on with the things i will miss about LA...drinking. more specifically drinking with friends. some of my favorites:

1. Taix- my local go-to bar. dark, cozy, old school, mixed crowd and not overrun with east side hipsters
2. The Edison- fancy schmancy, a throwback to the 20's, good for playing dress up, and on thursday you can get a drink for 35 cents, although it was better when it first opened. odd crowd.
3. Cole's- old school drinking, again...another throwback to the 20's. i do love a bartender in suspenders.
4. The Must- excellent happy hour, delicious grilled cheese and tomato soup.
5. Figaro Bistrot- the most "french" thing we have in LA, therefore i love it AND happy hour is every day.
6. The Drawing Room- the ultimate in dive bars
7. The Redwood Bar & Grill- adam hates this place. i love it. i love the kitschy nautical theme. and they make a good veggie burger. yum.

leaving los angeles

we are leaving california!

so here it is- the big news. adam and i and every little counts are leaving los angeles. after 5 long years we are going back to brooklyn where we first met. the two of us are native new englanders, so the constant sun and warm weather of los angeles was just something we couldn't get used to. i know- some people like it. maybe most people like it. but i have a really hard time going throughout life with no change in the weather. i miss the seasons- fall, winter, spring, summer. i love them all. i miss the mark they have on your life. i miss being near our families. i miss too much.

but, this is not a bash on los angeles. there are definitely things i will miss. i will miss my amazing friends- new and old. i will miss morning hikes in griffith park, the ocean, the mountains, the semi- exciting celebrity sighting (donovan leitch, crispin glover, jonathon rhys meyer- a few of my favorites), cheap produce, wine tasting, the occasional party on a yaht or mansion in the hills (come on, you don't get much more LA than that), our huge apartment with a view- esp. my walk in closet!, eating al fresco, and i will say it again...our friends- you are the reason why it's been so hard to leave all along.

yigal ozeri

yigal ozeri installation at mike weiss gallery september 2009 chelsea new york every little counts

i am definitely not an art critic. the art world can be a very intimidating place and i don't usually elaborate on why i like or dislike a piece of work. so, what i will say about the yigal ozeri show, "desire for anima" was that it was another one of my favorites from our afternoon in chelsea. adam was not into it at all, but my friend rebecca and i both loved the work. it's hard to believe these are paintings because they are so detailed and photographic.

for more reading, and a perhaps more detailed review, read this @ ArtCat.

pause

big life changes are in the works, and i really wish we could just pause for a minute- or a month really. adults always say there is never enough time in the day. i guess this means i am really an adult.

(this photo was taken in stockholm a couple of years ago.)

maya lin: three ways of looking at the earth

during our visit to new york, adam and i met up with our friend rebecca to wander through the chelsea art galleries, loving and hating some of the recently opened shows. one of my favorites was this exhibition by maya lin at pace wildenstein.

Missing Greece

Yesterday was mine and Adam's 3rd year wedding anniversary, which got me dreaming about Greece again. We spent our honeymoon on the Aegean island of Santorini, which was beyond beautiful...I wish I was back there right now.
