I wrote about Family Affairs a few months ago after falling in love the moment I discovered the line via Sally Jane Vintage, so I was ecstatic when Nina (the daughter in the mother/daughter team) invited me to the F/W 2010 presentation herself. In conjunction with Family Affairs, Nina designs her own jewelry line, Toujours Toi. I could get lost in both websites for hours with the dreamy, romantic photographs combined with so many great musical and film references.
The F/W 2010 presentation, "Moon River" was held at the Swiss Institute in Soho, a reference to the company's transatlantic operation- Nina is based in New York, and her mother, Kaya is based in Switzerland. Upon entering, we were immediately engulfed in the world of Toujours Toi-Family Affairs. Models languidly floated through the space bordered by a creative box installation playing cards, reading books, knitting, and playing with a bottles of dry ice. Backlighting clashed with projections of rural objects while folk, blues and ballads played on an old record player. The vibe was a little bit David Hamilton meets Virgin Suicides, which is easy to get lost in...and we did. The looks were a perfect mix of floaty floral feminine pieces, 1920's style drop waists, tailored pants & jackets, and A-line 60's style dresses.
