The Winner Takes it All...
Knowing Me, Knowing You...
Take a Chance on Me...
Voulez- Vous....
Money, Money Money...
I have been a little obsessed with ABBA ever since I did that water aerobics class in Arizona with Inge, our 75 year old instructor. She was truly amazing- with a fantastic toned and tanned body, bleach blond hair tied up in a bun, and perfectly made up in shades of pink. She, like most of the other women in the class, wore a silver sequined visor and special sneakers so she could jump in and out of the water to demonstrate the moves. She may be 75, but I had a hard time keeping up with her! For an entire hour we jumped around in the pool to a wonderfully curated soundtrack of ABBA, which Inge later told me she put in because of me- being a younger member of the group she thought I would enjoy it. I never thought I liked ABBA, even after watching "Mama Mia" (which I hated), but turns out- I do. And even though I should have perhaps been working on other things today, I got a little sidetracked watching ABBA videos on youtube.
(...and in case you were wondering why I was doing water aerobics in Arizona in the first place- well, about a week and a half ago my mom and I went to go visit a longtime family friend, who just so happened to be "wintering" in a gated retirement community in Mesa, AZ. Some of my friends may have begun to worry about my recent interest in sequin visors, water aerobics, and bingo- but I'm not ashamed.)

We have 1 piece left in the Etsy shop! Click here
Otherwise, you can get this style from aiik- the source for Every Little Counts in Taiwan
And a special thank you to aiik for this photo- I just love this guy. Isn't his hair great? I'm actually a little jealous.

i am in heaven....
A friend of mine sent me the new The Bird and the Bee album, Interpreting the Masters, Vol. 1- A Tribute to Daryl Hall & John Oates. I think I may be in heaven. Truly genius. Of course, this new discovery reignited my love for Hall & Oates (which I have never denied!) and thus began another obsessive youtube session of all of my favorites...

Watching: Voyager
Vacation is over and I am back in New York. After driving in from MA last night I only had enough energy for dinner and a movie so we watched the German film (although it's all in English?) "Voyager" (aka "Homo Faber") starring Sam Shepard and Julie Delpy. It was a beautifully shot film traveling throughout Mexico, New York, France, Italy, and Greece. I don't want to give anything away so I will just say that it was beautifully twisted and I am still thinking about it...
(If you've seen it...let me know what you think... I need to talk about it!)

bogie & bacall
Just an easy post today. I'm in the Phoenix airport right now on my way back home- vacation is over:( I will be sure to post pics tomorrow, but in the meantime here are some pics of one of my favorite couples- Humphrey Bogart & Lauren Bacall. I've always had a crush on Bogie, but I actually have a crush on both of them. I don't think you can get more stunning than Lauren Bacall.

Top 5 with Hadley Holliday
It's another Top 5 Friday and this week we have one of my favorite artists, Hadley Holliday! Besides being one of my favorite artists, she also happens to be one of my favorite people. Sadly, she is among the great friends Adam & I left behind when we left LA and moved to Brooklyn. I used to love meeting up for walks around Elysian Park- I miss those walks! I'm beginning to think we need to start planning a trip back to visit. But in the meantime, at least we have two of her paintings to look at every day.
But, back to the Top 5! I love doing these posts. Otherwise, I would have never known one of Hadley's favorite films was The Piano or she has a little crush on Benicio del Toro (as do I!). So here they are...
1. The Royal Tenenbaums - great soundtrack too!
2. The Piano - I love the part when he finds the hole in her stocking. So hot.
3. Days of Heaven - Sam Shepard in the grass.
4. The films of Oscar Fischinger - geometric shapes conjure visual music.
5. Romeo and Juliet - why don't more production designers do cool stuff like Catherine Martin?
Top 5 Books
1. Franny and Zooey, J.D. Salinger. I'm looking forward to any "lost" writings that might surface now that the old curmudgeon has passed on. My tattered old hard cover is a prized possession.
2. Orlando - The oddball novel by Virginia Woolf, not really anything like her other books, supremely absurd and beautiful, full of magical imagery.
3. Anything by Italo Calvino, fiction and non.
4. A Room with a View, E.M. Forster. I've been working my way through all his books recently, just finishing with Maurice. A Room with a View is such a pleasure with it's religion of beauty and joy. While the movie is good (featuring a very pale and naked Julian Sands running jubilantly through the mud) the book is better.
5. Trout Fishing in America, by Richard Brautigan. All sorts of bits of writings gathered together - some about trout streams, some not. In one a boy has noticed a waterfall off in the distance of his neighborhood. Finally he decides to go fishing. He gathers all that he thinks he might need and hikes to the waterfall. On reaching it he realizes that it is actually a flight of white painted stairs. He knocks on the wood.
Oops here's # six...
6. Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. Like the Road this book features moments of grotesque violence surrounded by lengthy descriptions of landscape. The contrast is sublime.
Top 5 Artworks
1. Lygia Clark, Projeto para um planeta, from the series Bichos (creatures),1963
2. Richard Long, England, 1968 - flower power!
3. Andre Cadere, 1973 film stills with his Barre de Bois
4. Artist unknown, Sristi (creation of the universe) 18th cent, western India (wish i could go see the current exhibition of Jain manuscripts at the Met)
5. Roman Opalka's ongoing project, 1965 / 1 – ∞
Top 5 Crushes of All Time
1. Jeff Bridges, man
2. P.J. Harvey
3. Benicio del Torro - We stood next to him at the Pixies concert- he's surprisingly tall.
4. Robert Plant - if I could time travel just to party it would be with Led Zep.
4. Maggie Gyllenhall

And now...some of my favorite paintings by Hadley, although it was really hard to narrow it down. I really do love every single piece she makes. Every single one. Please check out the rest of her work on her websitehttp://www.hadleyholliday.com/Home%20.html.

style icon: debbie harry
i don't know what took me so long to post this. duh, i love debbie harry. she is a punk goddess. in high school i wanted to dye my hair like hers, which...of course, did not fly with my mother and i was actually a little afraid of what would happen if i tried bleaching my dark hair. but anyway, i guess i haven't really be thinking about her or listening to her lately... it's actually been a long, long time. but seeing the video of blondie covering johnny cash (mentioned earlier) sort of sent a me a wake up call.
