arizona!

so this week i am going to be in arizona, taking a little vacation with my mom. we will be staying outside of phoenix with an old family friend. i'm really looking forward to some warmth,
rest, and relaxation, not to mention some good quality time with the girls. i'm not sure about my internet access, so i am scheduling some posts for the week, and of course i always have my blackberry nearby... convenient for tweeting my way through arizona ;)

....and don't worry- adam will still be in the Every Little Counts office back in brooklyn. both the ELC online shop and the ELC etsy shop will remain open!

Top 5 with Crosby

We were very excited to have the very lovely Crosby from PR Couture here with us for Top 5 Fridays. Not only is Crosby the founder of PR Couture, she is also the Senior Social Media Strategist for Red Door Interactive. I also know she has more up her sleeve than I can keep track of- she amazes me... I don't know how she does it all! But besides being a social media maven, she just so happens to be a girl after my own heart. I knew we shared a lot of the same loves (Anais Nin & Francesca Lia Block to name a few), but after reading her top 5's, I realized we have even more in common...

Top 5 Films of the Romantic Persuasion
 1. Stealing Beauty
 2. The Girl in the Cafe
 3. Ginger and Cinnamon
 4. Conversations with Other Women
 5. Better Than Sex

Top 5 Books
1. Dangerous Angels - Francesca Lia Block
2. The Golden Notebook - Doris Lessing
3. The Handmaid's Tale - Margaret Atwood
4. Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair - Pablo Neruda
5. The Passion - Jeanette Winterson

Top 5 Songs to Make Out To
1. Rock My Boat - Dntel featuring Mia Doi Todd
2. Cry to me - Otis Redding
3. Islands - the XX
4. I've been thinking - Handsome Boy Modeling School featuring Cat Power
5. Con Toda Palabra - Lhasa de Sela

Top 5 Crushes of All Time
1. Johnny Depp - so sort of embarrassingly unoriginal but one sorrow of girlhood was being born 3 minutes to early to share a birthday with this delicious twin of my zodiac
2. Glen Hansard - of The Frames and The Swell Season and the lovely movie Once. Watch that man sing live and tell me you don't wish you were his muse (plus he covers Falco).

3. Neil Gaiman - a brilliant mind, brittish accent and amazing hair, he is my mystical literary king

4. Jordan Catalano "I just love how he's always leaning against stuff. He leans great."
5. *Girl Crush* - Penelope Cruz (I don't think that one needs much explanation)

5 Words to Describe Falling in Love...
exuberant
alive
grin
exasperating
consuming

watching: daisies

Last week Adam & I watched Vera Chytilova's 1966 Czech New Wave film, "Daisies".  I've been struggling with what to say about it ever since. I'm not even going to try to explain it. I'm just going to say it was insane and visually manic, but worth watching. You must see to believe ;)

Whoa, Corey Haim.

So I woke up this morning to discover Corey Haim died. I guess I'm not really surprised, but still a little sad. Some of you youngins might not care so much, but Corey Haim was one of my first crushes- right up there with Michael Jackson (hey, I was young!), Kirk Cameron, River Phoenix, Ricky Schroder, and Ryan Lambert. I feel like I'm forgetting someone... it was a long time ago. Maybe I'll expand on this later. But in the meantime, I will choose to remember the Corey I used to love back in the 80's. These are my two favorite Corey movies....

Lucas, 1986- such a sweet movie. Also starring Charlie Sheen, Kerri Green, Winona Ryder, and Courtney Thorne- Smith.

License to Drive, 1988. Seriously, so good, so wonderfully 80's. I remember waiting for this to come out and finally going to see it at the theater with my mom and brother.  Also starring Heather Graham in her first movie- I totally wanted to be her.

I'm ashamed to say I have never seen The Lost Boys... the whole vampire thing. I was too scared.  Did anyone else see "Dream a Little Dream?" All I remember is being either really confused, bored, or disappointed. I should watch it again.

jean-louis trintignant

so i guess i am onto a theme here... crushing on old french guys that used to be pretty darn handsome.
i have had a thing for jean-louis trintignant ever since i saw him in "a man and a woman," which is one of my all time favorite movies....so heartbreakingly beautifully romantic.
anyway, another fun fact which i was not aware of until this morning-  he was married to one of my favorite violent, sensual, sensitive girls, stéphane audran, whom he starred with in "les biches" directed by claude chabrol, another one of those brilliant french new wave directors. after a brief marriage to jean-louis, stéphane married claude, and now of course, they are no longer married!
